The lone bachelor, surrounded by “those good and crazy people” - his married friends - Robert is uncertain whether he should simply be happy with his lot or whether he should wish for his own romantic partner. Over a series of dinner parties, first dates, and thoughtful conversations, Robert attempts to understand the pros and cons of marriage from his diverse and frequently hilarious friends, and begins to make sense of his own persistent bachelorhood. Company, Stephen Sondheim’s groundbreaking modern musical, is a mature, intelligent, and wildly funny look at relationships, vulnerability, and “being alive.”
COMPANY Is presented through special arrangement with Musical Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI. www.mtishows.com

Steve most recently appeared in FAKING SALVATION, an original comedy at Resurrection Theatre. He has played Cooper in WILD DUST and Woody Guthrie (the first one) in WOODY GUTHRIE'S AMERICAN SONG, a role that he will be reprising later this year. If you have ever seen a Panto at Sacramento City College, you've seen him play drums. Steve first saw Company in 2017 when his girlfriend Katie was playing April. It feels special to get to be a part of this show with her now, years later, being a married couple on stage and off stage.

They have worked with Rise Up in their three most recent productions; Drowsy Chaperone as the stage manager and tech, Night of the Living Dead as Judy, and now Company as Amy! They are very excited to be playing in their very first singing role since they joined the community theatre world. Sarita has been acting since they were fourteen and has so much respect for the wonderful director Courtney for giving them a chance despite everyone knowing how much stage fright was involved in the initial singing auditions. They hope you enjoy the show and they want to thank you for being our company.

Her recent credits include Young Frankenstein, Fiddler on the Roof, and Oklahoma! at DMTC—and yes, she can still sing the alto parts from all three if you ask nicely (or offer snacks). She also worked backstage on Puffs at the Woodland Opera House, where she learned tech cues can be just as (or more) chaotic as being onstage. When she isn’t on stage belting, dancing, or dramatically pretending to sell fish, Selena works for the University of California, where she is known for her serious professionalism and absolutely not for reciting monologues to the office plants. In her spare time, Selena enjoys reading, drawing, and meticulously painting Dungeons & Dragons mini figures—because nothing says “well-rounded artist” like spending three hours perfecting a goblin’s left shoe.

Welcome to Bobby’s world... or more accurately, Bobby’s local watering hole.
When looking at Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s COMPANY, it is easy to view it as a slick, mid century time capsule of 1970s Manhattan upper class anxieties. But at its core, this show is an intimate examination of isolation, community, and the terrifying vulnerability it takes to truly love someone.
To bring that raw intimacy to the forefront, we chose to strip away the traditional upscale apartment settings and root our production in a vibrant, neighborhood bar. A bar is a fascinating equalizer. It’s a space where we seek connection yet can remain totally anonymous. A place where we toast to milestones or drink away our loneliness. By gathering Bobby and his married friends in this environment, their intrusions into his headspace feel immediate, noisy, and wonderfully inescapable. The jukebox, the ambient chatter, and the shared drinks become the landscape of Bobby's mind as he wrestles with what it means to be "alive."
Instead of the typical showcase style version of COMPANY, we’ve added an ensemble! By bringing in an ensemble and fresh choreography, the dancing becomes a major storytelling tool rather than just extra flair. Using movement to connect emotional moments and build a vibrant, collective energy that brings the whole show to life. Filling in the constant feel of being surrounded by "company.
This production is a labor of love, and I am deeply grateful to our incredible cast, crew, and creative team for stepping into this venue with such vulnerability and passion.
Thank you for pulling up a stool with us tonight. We hope you leave feeling a little less alone in the crowd.
